League races are heating up and some big votes are coming from the OSAA this week to highlight the Rose City Roundup.

Lincoln and Grant are dominating the soccer scene while Central Catholic prepares for a big test this week.

And of course, we’ve got a selection of cross country results to share from this past week, as well as the stories you might have missed.

It’s all recapped for you down below, check it out and make sure to sign up for Portland Preps if you haven’t already!

Lincoln and Grant soccer start strong

After the first week of PIL action, both Lincoln and Grant went 2-0, and they did it on both the boys and girls side to leave them tied for first.

For the boys, Grant came out firing on the attack by picking up a 5-0 win over Roosevelt and then a 4-1 victory over Wells. Lincoln didn’t allow a goal with a 1-0 win over Cleveland and then a 3-0 blanking of Roosevelt.

On the girls side, the Generals dominated in an 8-0 win over Roosevelt and then blanked Wells 3-0. The Cardinals did much of the same in a 1-0 win over Cleveland and then a 5-0 victory over Roosevelt.

The Generals and Cardinals are scheduled to meet up on the girls side at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13 at Grant while the boys are slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Lincoln in two matches that could end up deciding the PIL crown on both sides.

St. Mary’s girls soccer with a statement win over David Douglas

St. Mary’s picked up a statement win in its second-to-last nonleague game of the season, taking down previously unbeaten David Douglas 2-0 at Buckman Field.

For the Blues, senior A’sharia Pendergrass scored both goals in the win, getting revenge from a second round playoff loss to the Scots last season.

The win gives SMA (6-1-1) some big momentum going into its first Three Rivers League match, which is a big one against West Linn. The match is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6 at West Linn.

Central Catholic volleyball prepares for rematch

Central Catholic took care of business once again this week in Mt. Hood Conference play, sweeping both David Douglas and Barlow to move to 8-1 in the MHC.

The wins set up an important week that starts with a home match against Sandy at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6.

If the Rams get by the Pioneers, the next match will likely be against a 10-0 Nelson squad that won the first meeting in straight sets. With a win, the Rams could be in line to at least split the league title and pick up a big amount of confidence before the postseason.

The match is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Central Catholic.

Boys volleyball could become sanctioned on Monday

The OSAA Delegate Assembly is set to meet at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6 at the Holiday Inn in Wilsonville.

There’s plenty on the docket, but a big one is a vote to officially sanction boys volleyball as an OSAA sport starting this school year in spring of 2026.

Portland schools have taken well to the sport with Central Catholic winning the 6A boys state title last year, as well as Parkrose being the No. 1 seed in 5A and placing second and a co-op Franklin/McDaniel team making the 6A semifinals and finishing in third.

The fun wasn’t just for the bigger schools either as Portland Adventist Academy was the No. 1 seed in the 3A/2A/1A classification and took home second place at state.

With the sport taking off across the state, it seems likely the vote will end in a yes for boys volleyball despite some cost concerns.

Also on the plan for delegate assembly is a vote to add boys and girls lacrosse as an emerging activity. Girls flag football is entering its second year as an emerging activity as well.

Following the meeting, the Classification and Districting Committee will meet for a fourth time to continue discussions on potential changes for the next four-year time block. Currently, the group is looking at the possibility of moving the state to five classifications for 2026-2030.
