Friday Night Lights: Franklin survives at home, Grant shines bright under new lights
Week two of the 2026 Oregon high school football season is in the books and we’ve got another weekly roundup of Friday night’s results, plus updated standings beneath it.
Ida B. Wells rolled Roosevelt in our game of the week, meanwhile Franklin and Jefferson played close, as did Cleveland and McDaniel. Lincoln went on the road to Lakeridge and nearly pulled off the upset in a high-scoring affair.

Ida B. Wells 53, Roosevelt 12
Wells scored on it’s opening drive, recovered a fumble in the end zone on the ensuing Roosevelt possession and finished the first quarter with 32 points.

Franklin 22, Jefferson 19
Jefferson led 19-14 at halftime, but Franklin was able to buckle down on defense in the second half at home and found a way to score once more to nab the win.
Levi Rountree opened the game for the Lightning by returning the kickoff for a TD. The other two scores came from running back Finnegan McTaggart to push Franklin ahead and to a 2-0 start overall and in the PIL.
The Democrats fall to 0-2 overall and in league and will look to get back on track at home next week hosting Benson at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
Franklin gets a tough test next with Grant, that game will be hosted by the Lightning at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
Cleveland 14, McDaniel 7
Cleveland hadn’t won two league games since 2019, but it only took two weeks into the 2026 season to get rid of that streak thanks to a 14-7 home win over McDaniel.
The Mountain Lions led 7-0 at halftime, but Steven Rogosin wasn’t going to be denied. He forced and recovered two fumbles on defense, and had a rushing TD with a two-point conversion.
The other score came from sophomore QB Jude Buck hitting Trek Gibler in the end zone as the defense kept McDaniel off the board in the second half.
McDaniel (0-2, 0-2 PIL) hits the road next week again in search of its first win of 2026, it will take on Roosevelt at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
Cleveland meanwhile will have a big test traveling to play Lincoln at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
Grant 70, Benson 0
For the first time ever, Grant football played a home game at night in the Grant Bowl thanks to the new lights. But the game didn't require the lights to be on for long with the 70-0 blowout over Benson.
The Generals (1-1, 1-1 PIL) got the score up to 63-0 at halftime before the running clock helped put this one to bed quickly in the second half with the 70-0 final.
Benson (0-2, 0-2 PIL), playing varsity football for the first time since 2018, will try and bounce back next week when it takes on Jefferson at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 on the road.
Grant will look to turn this into a win streak when it travels to play Franklin at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
Lakeridge 43, Lincoln 42
It was heartbreak for Lincoln (1-1, 1-0 PIL) on the road against Lakeridge, falling in the final minute when the Pacers scored with 21 seconds and went for a two-point conversion and got it to push ahead 43-42 for the final.
The two sides went back and forth all night, but it was consistently Lincoln throwing the first punch.
Greyson Murff scored a 14-yard TD run to open the game, then after Lakeridge tied it at seven, Murff ran back the ensuing kickoff to put Lincoln up 14-7.
Lakeridge tied it again at 14, but again, Murff housed the ensuing kickoff, making it a 21-14 Lincoln lead. The Pacers scored on the next kickoff as well though, tying the game at 21.
The Cardinals were unfazed though, rolling down the field and scoring on a 9-yard TD run from Antayus Wilkins. Lakeridge would tie the game at 28 though going into halftime.
The third quarter went scoreless, but the Pacers scored on the first play of the fourth to move ahead 35-28. But again, it was a quick answer from Lincoln when Wilkins ran the first play of the drive for a 55-yard TD to tie the game at 35.
Lincoln got the ball back and drove it once more, finishing it off with a 2-yard run from Leonardo Correani to go up 42-35 with 7:18 left in the game.
But Lakeridge was able to put together one final drive and took the risk on the two-pointer with 21 seconds to go, moving ahead 43-42.
Lincoln ran three run plays and ran out of time for one final heave to the end zone.
The Cardinals fall to 1-1 and will be back home next week to play Cleveland at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
McNary 13, David Douglas 12
Trailing 13-6, David Douglas (0-2) scored with only 30 seconds to go and decided to go for two to try and win it. Unfortunately, the Scots' play fell short and they fell to visiting McNary 13-12.
Hector Landeros Rosales got the Scots on the board first with a 45-yard fumble return TD. Malachi Fong scored the TD with 30 seconds to go to give David Douglas the shot at victory.
The Scots fall to 0-2 and will try to get win No. 1 under Tyler Maes next week on the road when they play Reynolds at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at Mt. Hood Community College.
