We’re already three weeks into the high school football season and league play began around the city on Friday.

Specifically, the PIL kicked things off with three matchups between league foes. Parkrose and David Douglas also both began 5A Special District 1 play against Gresham and Milwaukie, respectively.

Meanwhile Central Catholic renewed its Holy War rivalry with Jesuit in a clash of two Oregon powerhouses.

We’ve got all that down below in our Friday Night Lights recap!

Lincoln 31, Grant 0

The Cardinals (3-0, 1-0 PIL) kept rolling with an early kickoff on the road on Friday. Despite the early kick, the defense clocked in once again to post a shutout of the Generals (0-3, 0-1 PIL).

Offensively, Finn Davies rushed for a touchdown and connected with Blake Timothy for another on passing score. Leonardo Correani and Zan Galton rushed for the other two TDs and Davies hit a field goal for the 31-0 final.

Reed Eldridge added an interception on defense and Greyson Murff forced a fumble to go along with his 80 yards rushing. Galton had 120 yards on the ground.

Lincoln is back on the road next week to take on Franklin while Grant heads to Jesuit with both games set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.

Ida B. Wells 49, McDaniel 14

The Guardians (1-2, 1-0 PIL) and Mountain Lions (0-3, 0-1 PIL) traded scores to open the game, but then it was all Wells in the 49-14 victory.

Kurt Jordan ran for four touchdowns to lead the Guardians attack, meanwhile Lucius Coon added an 82-yard TD run and Oliver Hamzaoui had a 36-yard sweeping TD run.

For McDaniel, QB Marlan McCowan hit Jaydin Jordan for the first TD, then in the fourth it was Wyatt Finley to Jordan for the second score.

Wells hits the road next week to take on Roosevelt while McDaniel will be at Jefferson, both games set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.

Jefferson 46, Franklin 6

Sophomore quarterback AJ Kightlinger threw for four touchdowns and rushed for another in the Democrats (1-2, 1-0 PIL) dominant home win over the Lightning (1-2, 0-1 PIL)

Central Catholic 35, Jesuit 6

Jesuit (1-2) scored the first touchdown, but then it was all Rams (2-1) in the 35-6 win in the Holy War on the Crusaders’ home field.

QB Robbie Long responded to that Jesuit TD immediately by taking a 62-yard run to the house, putting the Rams up 7-6 in the first frame.

Long passed for the next two scores in the first half, the first one to George VanSandt and the second to Jamear Shambry, making it 21-6 at the break.

Long added two more TD passes in the second half by hitting Tyson Davis and Seager Milholen.

Central Catholic has one more nonleague left and that will be at home in Hillsboro Stadium against Lakeridge next week at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.

Tigard 59, Roosevelt 6

With injuries mounting at the QB for the Roughriders (0-3), it was a tough night on the road against Tigard (1-2). Cason Gilkey threw for a TD on the final play to avoid the shutout.

Roosevelt will look to get into the win column next week, but it won’t be easy when it hosts two-time defending PIL champion Wells at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.

Century 47, Cleveland 14

The Warriors (0-3) were able to get some offense flowing inside Hillsboro Stadium despite the loss to Century (2-1).

Henry Meade hauled in a 12-yard TD reception, meanwhile Cael Balderson had a 52-yard TD catch from QB Sam Ribner.

Up next, the Warriors are back home to take on Southridge at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.

Gresham 21, David Douglas 0 (suspended)

Play was stopped in the third quarter between Gresham (0-2) and David Douglas (0-2) after an injury to a Gophers player required an ambulance to come onto the field.

No word has been received on if the game will resume. Gresham led 21-0 before the game was called.

Milwaukie 28, Parkrose 13
