Week 4 provided some plenty of football fireworks in the PIL and at Hillsboro Stadium with Central Catholic.

McDaniel and Roosevelt pulled off some low-scoring upsets, meanwhile the Rams scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to turn back Lakeridge.

Here’s a roundup of most of the action in Rose City high school football, plus a look at the early league standings.

McDaniel 15, Jefferson 12

After a rough first three weeks, McDaniel is in the win column thanks to a big upset win on the road at Jefferson.

For the Mountain Lions, it’s their first PIL win over a team not named Cleveland since taking down Wells 20-12 on Sept. 24, 2021. And it’s their first time taking down Jefferson since a 48-21 win back on Sept. 29, 2017.

Jaydin Jordan continued his stellar season by going over 100 yards receiving with a TD, meanwhile Tre’Marion Crawford scored on a rushing TD. QB Marlan McCowan hit Amir Sanders for a 2-point conversion that put McDaniel up 15-6.

Holding the high powered Democrats defense to 12 points was an impressive feat for the Mountain Lions, led by defensive coordinator Lionel Gay, a Jefferson alum.

The Mountain Lions are now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the PIL with a matchup against Cleveland (0-4) at home next week set for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. Jefferson will try to bounce back with its first road game of the season against Grant. Game time is 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at Marshall Campus.

Central Catholic 14, Lakeridge 13

A 78-yard kickoff return TD by Cole Thomas was the difference in the Rams’ 14-13 victory at home over Lakeridge at Hillsboro Stadium.

After the two sides went scoreless in the first three quarters, Lakeridge got on the board with a fumble return touchdown. Central Catholic responded on offense with QB Robbie Long hitting Talon Sosky for a 44-yard TD, tying the game at seven.

The Pacers got back on the board though with 3:16 left, but penalties pushed the PAT back to 30 yards and it was missed to make it 13-7.

On the ensuing kickoff, Thomas took the ball to the house and the Rams defense closed out the game from there with the 14-13 lead.

Central Catholic is now 3-1 on the season and is done with its nonleague slate. Up next is the start of Mt. Hood Conference play on the road at Clackamas with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.

Lincoln 43, Franklin 16

It was the usual suspects for Lincoln as it took down Franklin 43-16 to stay unbeaten.

Leonardo Correani and Zan Galton had big rushing TDs while Greyson Murff had a lengthy TD reception that helped put the Cardinals in front 23-8 at halftime. QB Finn Davies had a rushing TD in the second half to help put the game away.

Lincoln is now 4-0 and 2-0 in the PIL while Franklin falls to 1-3, 0-2 in the PIL.

The Cardinals have a huge matchup at home next week against Roosevelt after the Roughriders took down Ida B. Wells on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, meanwhile the Lightning look to bounce back on the road at Wells at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.

Roosevelt 14, Ida B. Wells 12

After spotting the Guardians the first 12 points, the Roughriders defense turned things around and got just what they needed from the offense to end Wells’ league winning streak.

Sam Ribner was able to keep his passing game going by connecting with Cael Balderson for the Warriors lone score.

Cleveland (0-4) hits the road next week to take on McDaniel, gametime is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.
